At Border's Books this morning, I had to summon all willpower to refrain from flipping through the pages of the Winter 2007 issue of Bust Magazine. Do you know what this means? It means that MY copy will soon arrive in the mail. I'm so excited -- I can't wait. Whoo-hoo!

While I was organizing my desk, I noticed that my inspiration/hobby library has expanded quite a bit since I bought my first book several months ago. The first was a biography about famed textile designer Florence Broadhurst. Now piled in a neat stack on top of my desk, my craft/hobby books stack up to a total of eight inches ... and growing! My most recent addition, a gift from my Doug, is my favorite one of all: Midwest Modern
by Amy Butler -- a joy to read and admire from cover to cover.
I love my fun reads (from top/left):
- Art Deco Textile Designs
by Tina Skinner
- Ready Made, Issue 31
- Blueprint Magazines, Issue #5-7
- The Crafter's Companion
by Anna Torborg
- Sugar Cookies article from Blueprint, Issue #7
- Hooked on Crochet
by Candi Jensen
- Craft Magazine, Issue #05
- English Eccentrics
by Helen Littman
- India Bazaar
by Samantha Harrison and Bari Kumar
- Florence Broadhurst
by Helen O'Neill
- Midwest Modern
by Amy Butler
- Craft, Inc.
by Mateo Ilasco
- Bust Magazine, Oct./Nov. 2007 (not pictured)

I've been a very busy bee. Though I spent the bulk of the day drilling for a midterm which I just finished 3 hours ago (yes, it's midnight now), I admit that I took frequent fun breaks. As a matter of fact, I created a pile of index cards of sample exam questions and then alternated between completing three random PYTHON problems and then reading two (or three) articles from Issue 05 of O'Reilly's CRAFT Magazine. Surprisingly, this reward system worked out quite well -- I felt content and productive.
I resisted buying O'Reilly's Craft for a loooong time primarily because for a magazine, the price is pretty damn steep, at a whopping 15 bucks. But, considering the reading pleasure it's given me today and all the crafting that will come out of it, it's worth every penny. My Craft reading experience was akin to the excitement I felt when I first read the October/November issue of BUST Magazine (the one with Miranda July on the cover).
Man oh man -- there's so much to do! If I only knew how to sew, I'd be able to try more of the projects, but since my skills are not up to par yet, of all the many tutorials, the ones which I'm going to try are the Paper-making 101 and Paper Bead Bangle tutorials (pictured above). Sweet... I foresee a very hands-on Winter.

This is precisely what I love about Martha Stewart -- she and her people know great color! I received my second issue of Blueprint Magazine (Issue #07) in the mail this afternoon and I'm in love with the pink color scheme and photography of the Sugar Cookies article beginning on page 42.
Doug and I have been brainstorming for a suitable color scheme for a developing web project and we haven't felt inspired with any of the colors we've put together. Sugar Cookies has changed all that. Bravo! The website shall be bathed in pink!
