LOL. If it weren't so expensive, I'd happily buy this brooch -- guilt free. So vulgar, yet so cute.

I
nspired by Jessica Jones' thumbtack tutorial, I decided to make a bunch.
I've been dying to make these thumbtacks since I
first visited her blog several months ago, but a million nifty excuses trumped any of my attempts.
Well, Mother's Day is just around the corner and is the perfect excuse to set aside homework and laundry and other practical chores
to get knee deep in crafts. You can check out the thumbtack tutorial HERE.
Ms. Jones' illustrative instructions are very easy to follow.
Emphasis: For the 1/2" button covers, you will need
thumbtacks that measure 3/8" at the base. Any larger, then the thumbtacks
won't fit inside the button cover.
For packaging, I decided to create origami gift boxes and thought that
miniature boxes to house 6 thumbtacks would be endearing and so very cute.
I found a simple origami gift box tutorial from Expert Village HERE. To create
a cover, just use paper dimensions that are slightly
larger than the base of the box.
The thumbtacks and the origami box were a great joy to create. Thanks, How
About Orange and Expert Village for these rockin' tutorials.

A box of thumbtacks has been a member of my mental shopping list for the last few years. Though I've made several trips to Office Depot during this time span, buying a box of thumbtacks has always managed to escape me.
Doug and I had lunch at Izumiya last weekend and on the way back to our car, we made a stop by Japantown's version of a five and dime store: Ichiban Kan. And guess what I found?
Yes, I found the cutest thumbtacks ever -- thumbtacks in the form of sheep and hedgehog push pins, a pack of 4 for $1.50.
Considering that one can get a box of 200 thumbtacks at Office Depot for $2.00, $1.50 for 4 push pins is quite expensive, but hey, look at them .... they're so cute!
