I-Was-Told-There'd-Be-Cake Nails

I Was Told There'd Be Cake Nails

This is the result of my futile search for Baby Go Bye-Bye nail polish at multiple Target locations last week: experimentation and mismatched nail colors. Coincidentally, the colors match the cover of my latest read, I Was Told There'd Be Cake by Sloan Crosley (an enjoyable and fantastic read!).

The French-Inspired Home

The French-Inspired Home by Kaari Meng

Shoes shoes shoes. That's all it's been about these past few weeks on PuglyFeet, and so it's nice to change the pace a bit and write about something else like my favorite book of late -- The French-Inspired Home by Kaari Meng. As some of you already know, I love anything vintage. This book is packed with pages and pages of "noteworthy notions" and my heart leapt with joy as I savored each page.

I'll share my knowledge of vintage notions, how to collect them, where to find them, and how I develop color palettes for decorating. I'll lead you through the French-inspired home, room by room.

~ Kaari Meng

Seeking guidance to achieve a "French sense of home?" Look no further and let this happy book be your guide. Following are some of my favorite images:

All Wrapped Up

All Wrapped Up

As far back as I can remember, the sight of beautiful paper was just like magic -- it was like a happy potion. This was especially true of gift wrapping paper. So when I picked up All Wrapped Up by Kevin Akers at our local bookstore, I was thrilled! Each page featured beautiful gift wrapping paper from the 1960's. Following are some of my groovy favorites...

Are You Having Trouble Sleeping?

Modern Programming Languages

I f so, I have the perfect solution to your problem. Go and get a copy of Modern Programming Languages: A Practical Introduction by Adam Brooks Weber. Leave it at your bed side at all times. When you find yourself restless and unable to sleep, grab The Book and turn to Chapter 19 and read. I guarantee that you'll be asleep in no time!

Note:
To the author's credit, Modern Programming Languages is well written. To my brain's folly, it sometimes resists learning by passing out.

Fun Reading

Pugly's Muses

While I was organizing my desk, I noticed that my inspiration/hobby library has expanded quite a bit since I bought my first book several months ago. The first was a biography about famed textile designer Florence Broadhurst. Now piled in a neat stack on top of my desk, my craft/hobby books stack up to a total of eight inches ... and growing! My most recent addition, a gift from my Doug, is my favorite one of all: Midwest Modern by Amy Butler -- a joy to read and admire from cover to cover.

I love my fun reads (from top/left):

  1. Art Deco Textile Designs by Tina Skinner
  2. Ready Made, Issue 31
  3. Blueprint Magazines, Issue #5-7
  4. The Crafter's Companion by Anna Torborg
  5. Sugar Cookies article from Blueprint, Issue #7
  6. Hooked on Crochet by Candi Jensen
  7. Craft Magazine, Issue #05
  8. English Eccentrics by Helen Littman
  9. India Bazaar by Samantha Harrison and Bari Kumar
  10. Florence Broadhurst by Helen O'Neill
  11. Midwest Modern by Amy Butler
  12. Craft, Inc. by Mateo Ilasco
  13. Bust Magazine, Oct./Nov. 2007 (not pictured)
