The Greatest Cannoli on Earth

We drove through downtown SF, then through the Castro district and then through Noe Valley. We finally arrived at this charming shop on Diamond Street called Pasta Gina, an Italian deli of sorts where they sell fresh pasta, ravioli, spreads, and lots of olive oil.

They also sell desserts. We ordered two sinful treats to go: the Best Cannoli on Earth and a moist chocolate cake.

I've tried the cannolis at both Buca di Beppo and Pizzeria del Fina. They were both pretty good, but the cannoli at Pasta Gina is better. Remember this dining scene from Chocolat? Fast forward to the 10 second mark. That's how Doug and I ate our treats. The chocolate cake and the cannoli were delightful, well worth the trip into The City.

Back when I still ate sweets, I was obsessed with the cannoli (and just about everything else) at Mara Bakery in North Beach. Wonder how it compares...

Love cannoli!! I would have to say the best cannoli in the U.S. are from Mike's Pastry in Boston's North End. People from all over the world buy his cannoli.

The question is: Is it filled with sweetened ricotta? So many places fill them with frosting or something and it's just too sweet! These do look divine!
