Formica Tables

Our retro stove got me thinking about Fifties-inspired furniture and about how much I love them. My boss recently gave us his old Pottery Barn dining table. It's really nice. It's sturdy and made of dark pine and can comfortably seat 4-6 people. But, I would trade it in for a Fifties formica table if I could. There's just something so very special about those old formica tables. I love the colors and patterns of the laminate, especially in combination with the chrome. I hope to own a dinette set one day, but for now, pictures are enough. I found these beautiful dining sets on Flickr:

My boyfriend and I were recently lucky enough to be given a 50's formica table and set of four chairs for free. It's my favorite piece of furniture, and has become one of the focal points of our home.

I hope you get one someday.
My husband and I have two. The word got out that we were into them and some friends passed them on to us. I love when that happens. My favorite thing about furniture is when it has a story. One of our tables is small and yellow, my high school teacher gave it to us as a wedding gift. Our other one is cream and red with matching red chairs and it was my best friends grandfathers. They make me happy.

love and hugs,
kat

I was doing the circuit of antique/thrift shops along Palmetto Ave in Pacifica today, and one of the shops had a table with 6 chairs for $120. I ogled it for a while, but there is definitely no room for it in my little apartment. But you should go take a look at it! I actually took a photo of it, I admired it so. I can email you the photo, if you want to decide if it's worth looking in person. The seats were chrome and pink (no sparkles or starburst patterns though...I'd probably have bought the set regardless of space, were there sparkles or starbursts!!)

I love the dining set in the first photo! It's classic! It would be great if I can have something like that in my place.
