Bob-ify

Bob from Google

I wisely ignored my impulse to cut my hair myself and scheduled an appointment with a hair dresser on Saturday to turn my hair into shapely graduated bob. I hope it turns out just like this (fingers crossed).

My haircut is a bit shorter than I had anticipated. Though the graduation in the back is just the way I like it, too much was cut from the top and up front. Overall, my hair was cut very well -- just a bit shorter than I had hoped in certain areas. Hey, in about a month (or two), it may grow to resemble the picture of my hair muse, that cute bob photo I snagged from the web a few days ago. Despite my lukewarm reception to my new *do*, on technical merits alone, this is the best hair cut I've had in years.

Clio Wedge by Asgi Shoes

Bob-ified

About a month ago, I received a couple of pairs of shoes to review for Asgi: the Joy Mary Jane and the Clio Wedge. The Joy Mary Jane was a perfect fit. Though the Clio Wedge in length was spot on, the width wasn't great enough for my 4.5 inch wide pugly feet. So I decided to call on my friend, Brooke of Oh My Seven, to save the day because the shoes would probably fit her. Hoooray! Without further ado, here's the lovely Brooke, and her review of Asgi's Clio Wedge:

When Katrina asked me if I would like to review a pair of shoes for her, I nearly peed my pants. Me, getting to try (and keep!) a pair of really nice shoes, just for writing a review? My inner thought pattern reminded me of that old Smuckers commercial with the guy who says, "A bagel! Just for puttin' on a roof!" So of course I said yes. When the shoes arrived, I found to my delight that Katrina had included a box of miniature fair food that she'd purchased in Japantown... so cute!

Now for the shoes themselves:

My mom was actually going to review them for me, because they were her size (9), but I ended up with them because they were a little too big for her. They have an adjustable buckle, but the smaller size was too small for her foot, while the larger was too big (my sister, who wears a 9 as well, said that she had the same problem, so that might be something to be aware of if you're thinking of purchasing these shoes). My feet just barely fit in them.... I normally wear a size 10, but I've always been able to wear smaller sizes as long as they are a little bit wider. I think my feet are more of a 9 in length, but since my fat feet won't fit all the way to the end, I end up needing a bigger size. So that was a nice surprise to have them fit me. If I were going to purchase this shoe, I probably would get the 10, just because the strap is a tiny bit too small for me. I think it'll stretch out a little bit, though, because they're leather, so I think it'll be fine.

The Clio is actually really comfortable, for being a shoe with a heel-- I was pleasantly surprised at that. As someone who generally wears flipflops and on rare occasions, Converse Chuck Taylors, usually anything with a heel makes me feel like I'm going to trip (given that sometimes I trip on my feet even in flats, this is not an unwarranted fear!), but these were pretty stable. They are comfortable to walk in, though I do have to say that I vacuumed the house in them and I have a new appreciation for June Cleaver and her vacuuming-in-heels abilities (sadly, I wasn't wearing pearls, because I don't own any, but I was wearing a skirt... mostly because I felt funny in sweats and high heels). The only thing that's a little annoying is that they have a tendency to stick to my heels and then make a peeling-a-bandaid noise with each step. Luckily, it isn't TOO loud, so I think it's still wearable.

The Clio looks great with skirts, and pretty cute with jeans, too, which is always a nice parlor trick for a dressy shoe to be able to do. They're more dressy than the shoes I normally wear (flip flops and Chucks, if you remember), but I like that they're not so dressy that they're inaccessible. Does that make sense? What I mean is, if they were too dressy, I'd never wear them, because I would feel like I had to be dressed up with full makeup and my hair in an updo. But I would feel comfortable wearing these with jeans and a nice shirt, which makes them more of an every day shoe. I think the sporty heel contributes to that greatly.

I really like that they have a narrow look, but that they're still spacious... I love shoes with wide toe boxes, but it's nice to have something that is comfortable, but looks sleek for a change. All in all, the Clio is a great shoe-- pretty, sporty, dressy, comfy and wearable.

Cute Magic Can't Deal With the She-Hulk

I can't even tell you how excited I was when Gwenelle and Danielle from Solestruck.com emailed me about reviewing some shoes. I grew even more excited when they said they were going to send me Cute Bar's sister, Cute Magic.

Taken directly from Solestruck.com, here are the specs on Cute Magic:

Skimmer-style comfort flat

Want to partake in current trends without scarring your soles? Take a walk in the Clarks Cute Magic—no one would even guess that it's a comfort shoe! The casual construction gives a little bit of texture with a distressed leather upper, a triangular-cut toe, and inversed stitching around the heel. To finish off this fab number, a sturdy yet thin crepe sole adds more texture, and leaves the classic Clarks signature. Padded footbed. Leather upper. Crepe outsole. A Clarks original. Womens shoe. Imported.

So I picked up my mail after work yesterday. I was delirious with excitement and it's a miracle that I even managed to refrain from opening the box straight away.

Ooohh, I thought, new pictures with fresh new shoes. On the drive home I day-dreamed of taking ever so many pictures of them. When I opened the box and slipped on Cute Magic, dear me!!! Everyone, meet my 4.5 inch-wide and flat hooves, the "She-Hulks". Using their pugly super powers, they managed to nullify the magic in Cute Magic. So, if you have wide and flat hooves as I do, you may want to consider this when buying Cute Magic. To Clarks' credit, I walked all over the house in them yesterday and they were optimal as far as comfort was concerned.

To my regret, I'm going to have to return the shoes. Thank goodness, though, Solestruck.com made the process of returning them an easy one: with their pre-paid shipping, returns are simple and FREE. And, they accept returns up to ONE FULL YEAR from the original date of purchase. So, if you have problems with shoes ordered from Solestruck.com, don't worry about it. Exchanging and returning shoes with Solestruck.com is, in the spirit of Larry David: pretty, pretty, pretty easy.

Moop Outfit

Moopshop.com → Cute Outfit

I was mooping around moopshop.com (followed an ad link from Modish) and found the Moop Shop handmade bags to be ok, somewhat mediocre, considering how much they're selling it for. I realize they're expensive because they're handmade... but $76.00 for that bag -- I don't know. That's a lot of dough for a very plain bag.

Anyway, I find this picture noteworthy, not for the bag, per se, but for the outfit the model is wearing. Everything about her outfit is adorable from head to toe and the fall colors resonate with me. I especially dig the skirt, the footless tights and the shoes. Are those the Sienna Ballerinas by Keen ??? I wonder if they'd be able to take on She-Hulk.
