Re-Mix Vintage Shoes
In some previous life, I must have lived for a time in the 1940s. As far back as I can remember, I've always enjoyed watching American movie classics, especially that decade. Oh how I love Casablanca and It's a Wonderful Life... As much as I loved the stories themselves, I admired the style of the women who graced the silver screen. I loved the way they fixed their hair, the way they applied their makeup and most of all, I adored the way they dressed. A tomboy at heart, I know that dressing as the silver screen goddesses did on a regular basis or even once in a while would be too much, at least for me, anyway.
But wait, all hope is not lost! How about wearing shoes from the '40s? That isn't so formidable. I was happy to learn that there are 1940s reproductions available. They can be found at Re-Mix Vintage Shoes. I want to emphasize that these shoes are new (not used). The pictures posted here are my favorite wedges from their 1940s collection.
The only downside is that there's only one location: Hollywood. Also, their website is the perfect example of a First Generation Website from the early 1990s with some broken links and a non-existent shopping cart to boot. To order, you have to download their order form to fax or even worse: to call it in.
But, despite their serious web design and technology issues (or lack thereof), Re-Mix shoes rock. Vintage reproductions with added comfort is enough to make me wish for the very first time in my life that I lived in Southern California.

Despite my lifelong tomboy tendencies, I *did* dress straight out of vintage movies for most of the 1980s and 1990s, until suddenly the swing dance craze hit and good vintage clothing became $$$$. When I was doing something particularly un-girly - riding motorcycles or exploring desert mines, say - I'd wear men's vintage :)
Remix is a short distance up the street from me, and let me tell you - going there in person is a trip. To say the owner is "eccentric" is a total understatement, and experiencing this place in person pretty much explains why the website is so absolutely lame!
The Briar Cliff in grass green for me please! If those aren't the most darling shoes I've ever seen.
So cute!
Those are beautiful shoes! not too crazy about the open toe though... great colors. especially the brown and olive wedge.
I walked into a little boutique here in Richmond, VA a year ago and found they carried Re-Mix shoes. It might be possible to contact the company and see which boutiques nearest to you carry thier shoes. It was great because I was able to try on those Briarcliffs; which were very cute and very comfortable! Unfortunately, I didn't have the money, but now I know I want some and that it will be fine even if I have to order them.
