Re-Mix Vintage Shoes

In some previous life, I must have lived for a time in the 1940s. As far back as I can remember, I've always enjoyed watching American movie classics from this time period. Oh how I love Casablanca and It's a Wonderful Life... As much as I loved the stories themselves, I admired the style of the women who graced the silver screen. I loved the way they fashioned their hair, the way they applied their perfect makeup and most of all, I adored the way they dressed. A tomboy at heart, I know that dressing as the silver screen goddesses did on a regular basis or even once in a while would be too much -- for anyone, really.

But wait, all hope is not lost! How about wearing shoes from the '40s? That isn't so formidable! Hey, there are 1940s reproductions available!! They can be found at Re-Mix Vintage Shoes. I want to emphasize that these shoes are new (not used). The pictures posted here are my favorite wedges from their 1940s collection.

Re-Mix Vintage Shoes

I learned of Re-Mix from the Wardrobe Remix Flickr Group. Plenty of the posts I've seen have referenced shoes from Re-Mix. Why it took me months to check out their website thoroughly, I don't know, but I'm glad I did tonight.

The only downside is that there's only one location: Hollywood. Boo hoo hoo! Also, their website is the perfect example of a First Generation Website from the early 1990s -- pretty lame design with some broken links and a non-existent shopping cart to boot. To order, you have to download their order form to fax or even worse: to call it in!

But, despite their serious web design and technology issues (or lack thereof), Re-Mix shoes rock! Vintage reproductions with added comfort is enough to make me wish for the very first time in my life that I lived in Southern California.

Despite my lifelong tomboy tendencies, I *did* dress straight out of vintage movies for most of the 1980s and 1990s, until suddenly the swing dance craze hit and good vintage clothing became $$$$. When I was doing something particularly un-girly - riding motorcycles or exploring desert mines, say - I'd wear men's vintage :) Remix is a short distance up the street from me, and let me tell you - going there in person is a trip. To say the owner is "eccentric" is a total understatement, and experiencing this place in person pretty much explains why the website is so absolutely lame!
