Pizzeria Delfina

As we circled the block for the third time, we remembered why so much time had passed since our last visit to Pizzeria Delfina. Except for outings with Mojo, impossibility of parking in any of the cool parts of town was enough incentive to drive two homebodies to stay inside their favorite place in the whole wide world: Home Sweet Home. But, as tonight was a very special night to celebrate the birthday of the Man of the House, we invited Tita Marianne to ride with us across town to Mission Dolores Park where we would dine and celebrate and be merry and stuff ourselves silly with the best thin crust pizza in San Francisco.

After circulating the neighborhood with eyes peeled for any spot, we finally found parking right across the way from Dolores Park. And after waiting a very long time outide of Delfina, we were finally seated and as luck would have it, we were seated right at the bar. Now, that was a treat! Seated at the bar, we were able to watch the kitchen staff hustle and bustle to prepare our meal -- it was entertaining. If you're a cooking show whore, then you know exactly what I mean.

We whet our palates with melt-in-your-mouth Warm Marinated Olives -- an absolute must if you love antipasti. In addition to the olives, we also ordered Insalate Tricolore (arugula, radicchio and endive with lemon, extra virgin olive oil and grana padano) and Broccoli di Ciccio (anchovy, garlic, capers, and hot peppers). I'm salivating just thinking about the appetizers. As Rachel Ray would say: "YUM!"

"What happened to the pizza???", you may be wondering. With respect to food, I'm a firm believer that it's acceptable, if not mandatory, to order with one's eyes, no matter how hungry while ordering. Afterall, as the Queen of Leftovers Galore, leftovers make great lunch.

We ordered 3 mouth-watering pizzas. The special was Panna. Though I don't recall what was in it (besides tomato paste and cheese), it was my favorite (picture right above). We also ordered the nice and spicy Clam Pie (cherrystones, tomato, oregano, pecorino and hot peppers) and of course, the cheesy 4 Formaggi (mozzarella, fontal, provolone and pecorino).

Did I mention leftovers earlier? Well, ahh...hehe.... by the end, there were none left, at all. We had such a fantastic time: Doug's birthday, awesome company, wonderful food -- all a delightful combination. The pizzas were totally well worth all the parking hassles.
